This year will be different. The start of each year usually marks a renewed attempt to deny myself something. The norm is a new diet; the past few Januaries have borne witness to various failed abstinence attempts ranging from caffeine to carbs. (I know I'm not alone here - the normal bombardment in January of advertising for weight loss clubs and nicotine substitutes are testament to this!) Despite my best intentions however, by the time the weather has begun to warm, each new fad has met it's inevitable end.
This year is different. This year it's not about denial. This year I am only making positive changes. This is the year of green living.
Undeniably we are all aware of the impending doom our planet faces. Most of us at least pay lip service to the idea of becoming more ecologically aware. At a minimum we recycle our wine bottles.... some of them!
When I am being honest with myself (and previously I may not have admitted this in certain company) I barely do more than the minimum. And I care about ethics and ecology - I do! I buy free range eggs and fair trade bananas. On occasion I check how far my vegetables have flown to get to me. But we are being honest now. I really do not have a clue what effect the way I live has on the planet I live on.
This is the year to find out.
This year, every month, I pledge to improve one thing about how I live to reduce my effect on our planet.
This is my resolution.
